Icon Licensing
IconsRoom is an open catalogue of SVG icons. Icons are sourced from projects that have released them under permissive open-source licenses. Each collection retains its original license.
Overview
Icons on IconsRoom are indexed from open-source projects (e.g. Heroicons, Lucide, Feather, Material Design Icons). The original authors have made these icons free to use under licenses such as MIT, Apache 2.0, and Creative Commons. Each collection page displays its license and a link to the full license text when available.
How to Check a License
Visit any collection page (e.g. /heroicons, /lucide) or icon detail page. The license name and URL are shown in the metadata. Follow the link to read the full terms. You are responsible for complying with the license of any icon set you use.
License Types
Common licenses used by icon collections on IconsRoom:
MIT License
Permits use, modification, and distribution. A copy of the license and copyright notice must be included when distributing. Attribution is required per the license terms.
MIT License (choosealicense.com)Apache License 2.0
Similar to MIT with an express patent grant. Requires inclusion of the license and a notice of changes. Commercial use permitted.
Apache 2.0 (choosealicense.com)Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY)
You may use, adapt, and share the work. You must give appropriate credit, provide a link to the license, and indicate if changes were made.
CC BY 4.0 (creativecommons.org)Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike (CC BY-SA)
Same as CC BY, but adaptations must be distributed under the same license (ShareAlike).
